Front Wavetrac® limited slip differential now available for Mitsubishi Evo 8 / 9

Torque Developments plc is delighted to launch a Wavetrac® limited slip differential for the front axle of the popular Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8 and 9 models with manual transmissions. A proven method of improving traction, reducing understeer and enhancing the dynamics of any car, the Wavetrac® limited slip differential for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8 / 9 offers a more advanced design than any competitor product on sale today.

What makes the Wavetrac® Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8 / 9 front differential different?
To best understand how the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8 / 9 front Wavetrac® unit is truly different from the other gear differentials on the market, you first have to understand the primary problem that the Wavetrac® LSD solves – the ‘zero-load’ condition.

Zero axle-load is a condition that occurs during normal driving, but creates the most noticeable problems when driving in extreme driving conditions, such as trackdays, when one drive wheel is nearly or completely lifted (often in aggressive cornering). In these conditions, all other gear differentials will loose drive and behave like a factory ‘open’ diff’.

The Wavetrac® unit for the front axle of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8/9 is designed specifically to overcome this problem, thanks to the innovative, patent-pending, Wavetrac® device located in the centre of the differential. During zero-load or near zero-load conditions the Wavetrac® device responds allowing the axles (and therefore each side gear in the diff) to start to turn at different speeds.

This speed differential causes the Wavetrac® device to step into action: Precisely engineered wave profiles are placed on one side gear and its mating preload hub. As the two side gears rotate relative to each other, each wave surface climbs the other, causing them to move apart. Very quickly, this creates enough internal load within the Wavetrac® to STOP the zero axle-load condition. The zero axle-load condition is halted, and the drive torque is applied to the wheel on the ground (the gripping wheel) keeping the power down and the car driving forward in a controllable manner.

The Wavetrac® is the only differential that can automatically add more load internally when it’s required. In the case where both wheels are on the ground during zero axle load, such as during a transition to deceleration, the Wavetrac® device is able to prepare the drivetrain for when the zero torque condition stops, eliminating the delay seen with ordinary gear diffs.

What this means for you as a driver is that power is delivered to the gripping wheels for more time and in a more constant manner, making you faster and improving stability. The Wavetrac® truly is different – and its innovative features can make a real difference to your Mitsubishi’s performance.

The Wavetrac® advantages – ensuring the best for your Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8/9
It’s not just the Wavetrac®’s performance that’s different, the Wavetrac® Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8/9 front limited slip differential is produced differently. Let’s look at the key Wavetrac® features:-

* Internally, the Wavetrac®’s gear tooth forms are optimised for strength and improved oil film retention over competitor designs

* The Wavetrac®  gear package is smaller, reducing overall mass, yet is more durable, since particular attention was paid to the tooth strength – perfect for high torque conditions

* Attention was also paid to the side gear/axle interface, putting as much material thickness as possible in this critical area – most important when power levels get high

* The Wavetrac® Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8/9 front LSD uses high strength 9310 steel gears

* Wavetrac® uses case hardened, billet or forged steel housings for longevity

* ARP® fasteners are used throughout – we specify the best

* The Wavetrac® is a direct replacement for the original Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8/9 front differential

Wavetrac®’s manufacturing tolerances and finish requirements meet or exceed all OEM standards. All Wavetrac® differentials are built in American plants operating to ISO9002 and TS16949 standards, with quality control systems that verify components at every step as they proceed through the manufacturing process.

Ideally suited to the needs of fast road, trackday, or motorsport competitors, the Wavetrac® differential requires no servicing or rebuilds and comes with a limited lifetime warranty.

Carrying part number 76.309.190WK, the Wavetrac® limited slip differential for manual transmission variants of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8/9 is available now from Torque Developments Plc, with priced at £815.00 excluding VAT. To purchase this product now, click on:- https://www.tdi-plc.com/catalog/wavetrac-front-differential-5mt6mt-p-15904.html
